Tora leaves is also known as sickle senna, sickle pod, tora, coffee pod, tovara, chakvad and foetid cassia. It is mostly found in South-East Asia and the South West Pacific as an important weed. I heard from my ancestors that these have medicinal benefits which is good for intestine and vision. Here is a recipe for the tasty, crispy tora leaves fritters for you.

Preparations :
- Soak rice for 30 minutes, wash well and drain.
- Wash tora leaves well and chop into a small pieces. Make a tiny pieces of onion and keep aside.
- Prepare a batter to make fritters by grinding drained rice, dry red chillies, salt, tamarind paste and water. Make a thick paste and before taking the ground masala(batter) add asafoetida and grind for few more seconds.
- Mix the chopped tora leaves and onion mixture into the batter. Check if salt is required.
- In deep frying vessel add oil once it is heated, Using hand take a lemon size batter and give a round shape. Leave the batter one by one into oil and fry in a medium flame by turning both the sides.
- When it is crisp and brown remove onto absorbent paper and serve warm as a starters.
Note :
- The reason for adding asafoetida at the end of grinding is it gives a nice aroma of asafoetida while eating fritters which tastes good.
- You can use spoon to leave batter into oil if you are not comfortable using hands.
