Khara bath / Vegetable Upma Recipe

Preparation :
  1. Before placing the kadai in gas flame heat given quantity of water till it gets rolling boil.
  2. In a wide bottom pan heat oil, add Urad daal once it turns golden and you get nice aroma add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and Curry leaves.
  3. Add green chillies (slit into half), finely chopped onion and cook till it is soft and light golden. 
  4. Add finely chopped tomatoes and saute for few minutes. Also next goes in the fresh green peas which take few minutes to get cooked.
  5. Add salt and Mix them well. Now reduce the flame to low at the time of adding semolina/rava.
  6. In a Simmer fry the rava for 2 minutes. You have to keep sauteeing in between to avoid semolina from getting brown.
  7. Add the hot water and sugar let it cook for 3-4 minutes. Semolina will absorb moisture soon and also will get it cooked soon.
  8. Remove from the heat and garnish with coriander leaves.
  9. Serve hot vegetable upma with topping of sev, sheera and coffee/tea. 

Note:

  1. One you pour hot water keep stirring to avoid formation of any lumps.
  2. Rava boiles very soon, So do not cook for more than 3 minutes.
  3. Before adding sugar check if it has got enough salt, Once you add sugar even though salt is required you cannot feel its taste.
